When thinking about floating floor installation of an engineered floor, size does in fact matter. If you get an engineered hardwood floor that is too thin the floor might end up with hollow pockets that will give every time they are stepped on by a person. If you get an engineered wood floor that is too narrow the floor might start to separate after a little bit.
A floor that is good for a floating floor installation should be at least 1/2″ thick and at least 4 3/4″ wide. Many companies tell you that you can float a floor that is only 3/8″ thick, and the truth is you can, but usually it shows as a very soft feeling floor. If the floor has too many hollow spots it can cause the seems to breakdown over the years. That is why we sell mostly 1/2″ or thicker engineered wood floors.
